Our Mission

Our Story

BRCW serves local Burmese and Rohingya resettled refugees in Milwaukee and beyond by providing; high quality interpretation and language services, needed education and health programs, through advocacy and academic partnerships, and hosting a wide range of religious and cultural services all aimed providing for the direct needs of our community.

BRCW's story began in the Summer of 2015, when founders Anwar and Andrew met.  Anwar was recently resettled with his family in Milwaukee, and invited Andrew over to eat with his family.  Rohingya food is spicy, and Andrew loves spicy food, which led him to join many meals in the weeks that followed.  As their friendship developed, they began discussing the idea of establishing an organization to serve the large and growing Rohingya community.  Anwar was already a career interpreter between Rohingya, Burmese, Malay, and English, and able to help the families already resettled.  Together, they incorporated BRCW in early 2016 with unending plans, but limited resources.
